Palworld: How to Get Hardwood
If you’re used to playing open-world crafting games, chances are you’re more than accustomed to the endless cycle of tiered materials that scale over the course of the experience. Palworld, of course, is no different.
At the beginning of the game, you’ll use your axe to chop down trees and use the harvested wood to make various items. However, there comes a point when newer items will begin to require Hardwood instead of normal wood.
But just where do we get this material, and how do we automate the process, so we don’t spend hours upon hours chopping down trees? Let’s take a look!
Where to Find Hardwood
Chopping Hardwood Trees
There are quite a few ways to get Hardwood, some easier than others. The most obvious is simply by chopping down certain types of trees.
Naturally, the only trees you’ll actually get Hardwood from become available a little bit later in the game. For me, it’s best simply to head over to Sakurajima, to the Cherry Blossom location near the Boss Tower.
You’ll notice a bunch of trees here with thicker trunks and differently textured bark. Simply swing your Axe against these for a good amount of hardwood.
If you haven’t discovered this location yet, you can also try some of the trees in the Twilight Dunes, which are available pretty early on. Remember to use the best Axe you can here. The Refined Metal Axe or higher works a treat!
Bring a Pal with Harvesting Qualities to help speed up the process!
Buying Hardwood
Another extremely fast way to gather a good amount of Hardwood is to simply buy it from a Merchant. For example, you can buy it from the red-jacket Merchant in the Small Settlement just west of the starting zone for as little as 100 Gold per piece.
This is great at the start of the game when you only need a small amount. However, as you require more and more Hardwood, this quickly becomes a bit of a drain on the old wallet.
Logging Site II
As soon as you’ve collected around 100 Hardwood, you’ll probably want to consider creating a Logging Site. The second level of Logging Site will allow your Pals to passively chop Hardwood trees while you’re out and about, automating the process to save you a lot of time.
For this, you’ll need level 43 and the following items:
- 100x Hardwood
- 50x Stone
- 20x Paldium Fragment
- 5x Ancient Civilisation Parts
To chop up these trees relatively quickly, you’ll need a few Pals with high Lumbering. Efficient Pals for this include: Verdash, Bushi, Mossanda, Xenovader, Mammorest and Wumpo, among others.
Hardwood Uses
So, you’ve got yourself a good amount of Hardwood. Just what can we use this wood for anyway?
Well, in terms of technology, there’s a massive amount that requires hardwood, from Decorative Trees to high-level Pal Spheres to feed bags, gliders, pouches, storage, and building materials. As you might be able to tell, this is an absolutely crucial item to have in bulk.
In addition, you can also craft a few different weapons. This includes the Grass Grenade, the Metal Bat, the Double-Barreled Shotgun, and finally the Single-Shot Rifle.
